HEMATOLOGY

Hematology is the branch of Internal Medicine that treats diseases of the blood and the organs that make up the hematopoietic system. The hematologist evaluates the patient’s clinic, laboratory and radiological changes, for diagnosis, possible detection of causes, treatment, monitoring of response to medication, determination of prognosis and, if possible, prevention of blood diseases.
Hematologists diagnose and treat diseases of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets (and coagulation factors), their decrease or increase, benign or malignant, congenital or acquired.
